English

I was born in Rome on the 28th December 1988, where I live and carry on with most of my projects and works.
I started photography as a self-thought when I was 17 years –old, and after experimenting  on my own for a while I decided to subscribe for  the “CSF Adams” school in Rome, where I attended  basic, intermediate and advanced technique courses. While learning how to fully control the photographic process, I became interested in the social and communicative role of photography,  so I decided to focus mainly on social reportage. Due to this passion, I signed for two specific courses in the following years: one held by Tano D’Amico  (2009-2011), one of the most important Italian reporter, famous for his long-life work on the students’ political protests, and based mainly on the history of the social reportage, and one held by Rocco Rorandelli ( 2009-2011), photographer, member and co-founder of “Terra Project” collective, mainly focused on how to build and work on a project in all its moment, from the ideas to the final editing.
Since the beginning of my reportage experience, I always focused on those issues that seems to bring  contrasts and clashes in our society:  my very first reportage was shot in a Gipsy camp in Rome,  a few days following the killing of an Italian woman by a homeless that raised  tension and hate of the population against  these people .I also documented the daily life in another camp, located in the infamous Scampia block, in the suburbs of Naples.  Its title is “Emergenza Rom”, as the name the media used to describe the situation, and it was shown at the first edition of “Occhi Rossi Festival” in Rome (2008).
At the same time, I started working on a issue which is still one of my main subject: the students political protests. Starting from the “Onda” movement of 2008, I always tried to have a different and deeper look at  the students struggle, if compared to the one offered by the media, trying to focus not only on parades and riots, but also on the organization of the movement on  its political and ideological issues.
In September 2009 I went to Istanbul, where I focused again on the weakest and poorest part of the population, such as homeless and Kurdish minority. This pictures where then  shown in a collective exhibition in Rome called “No Dreams”. A few months later, thanks to the same pictures, I was selected to attend a workshop held in Barcelona by the Magnum Agency ( 3-7 November  2009), under the guidance of the photographer Chris Steel-Perkins I decided to focus my reportage on the so called “Barrio Chino” ( or “el Raval”), one of the most problematic block of the city, that lives the contrast due to the high percentage of immigrants from many different countries, not always willing to share the same streets. Also, the Raval’s streets are  home to a number  of heroin-addicted, and I managed to get in touch with some of them and document their daily life. The final work, named “Ghetto Raval”, was shown during the Trafic Festival of Barcelona as part of the main event .
Back in Rome,  I started to work on a project called “Modern Rome”: it is a documentation of the gap between the city and the country which has been characterizing some areas of Rome, due to the massive and irresponsible illegal building that has been dramatically changing the city's landscape since the Sixties.
I reported this gap by following  the last families of shepherds of Rome in their absurd daily life, as most of them are still living and farming according to their old traditions, while their rural world is disappearing, eroded by the unstoppable and ineluctable urban expansion. “Modern Rome” is been shown during the Cascina Farsetti Art Festival of Rome (2011) and in the CSF Adams as part of the Fotografia-International festival of Rome (2012).

While working at this project, I also started a collective project with the class of reportage I was joining under the guidance of Rocco Rorandelli. This reportage is based on the “Idroscalo”, an infamous roman suburb, always shown by the media as home of criminals, drug dealers and so on.
Aim of the project, called “l’Altro Idroscalo” ( Another Idroscalo), was to give, instead,  a genuine and human version of the people living here, that we met and knew ads “ normal” families, far from the negative stereotypes they were known for. This project has been shown at the “Cineporto” Festival of Rome, 2011.

In summer 2011 I started to work on a project which can be considered new both for its contents and for  the type of pictures. “Kunstwollen”, which is the German word for “ art willing”, is a collection of middle format artists’ portraits, shot in their atelier and galleries, but also in their private and public moments, exhibition , meetings and so on. The main matter I focused on is the link, the strong relationship between the artist and its “environment”, meaning both the physical space where he/her works and the social context where he lives.
